Getting Zencarts Image Handler, working correctly in Safari, Chrome and Opera

 This Info is out of date, there is an upgraded script available that works better, and requires no changes to your code apart from replacing the contents of the image handler provided jscript_imagehover with new code


This is a bodge to fix the image hover issue in Image Handler that effects Webkit (Safari and Chrome) based browsers and the Opera browser.

The issue was that the popup hover image only appeared above the original page fold, so when you had a large list of products and hovered over one near the bottom, the popup doesn't appear on screen, (it is working, it's just appearing off the screen)

Ok first off i am not a developer, i am a bodger, I take a few bits of code and bodge them together to get the outcome i want.

This bodge is given as an "as is where is" bodge and i don't take any responsibility for any problems you may encounter, so use common sense and back-up your files before making any changes.

First off, you should have installed image handler, and it should be working correctly in IE and/or Firefox.

You will need to alter a few files, if these files are not in your template directory, then you may need to copy them from the default template.

zencart -> Includes -> templates -> your template -> common

html_header.php

Step One

Sorting out the javascript

This is the crux of the matter, the current javascript doesn't work with Safari, Chrome and Opera, but it works fine with Firefox and Internet explorer, the new fix file works with all browsers i have tested except IE6, so what we are going to do is have two javascript files, one for modern browsers and one for IE6, not the perfect solution, but it works.

For this bodge to work, you will need to rename this file

zencart -> Includes -> templates -> your template -> jscript

jscript_imagehover.js

to

ie6_imagehover.js

This file should be in the jscript directory of your template as well as the default template, change them both and make sure there is no file on the server called jscript_imagehover.js as this will conflict and can cause errors

copy this file and add it to your jscript directory.

Step 2

Now we need to call the javascript files depending on the browser, so you will need to open this file


zencart -> Includes -> templates -> your template -> common
html_header.php 

scroll right to the bottom of the page and then paste this directly before the closing head tag
remembering to replace YOUR_TEMPLATE with your template name

Basically all that does is select the original javascript for IE6, all other browsers get the new javascript

Step 3

Open up this file

zencart -> Includes -> templates -> your template -> common
tpl_main_page.php

add the following directly below the body tag

Once you have uploaded all the files, it should be working, the image hover has a loading bar unfortunately this has a bug in firefox for some document types, so if you see the bug remove the css that relates to the loading bar

First post for 2009

Well i thought i had better get a post in for 2009, can't think of anything to say but well here is 2009 and i made it in before the end of the year

Phew nearly left it too long

I'm back, yes and it's not even a year since my last post.

Well whats happened in the last year or so

1. We have another sprog on the way - in a month or so a little Nigella will pop into the world, still havent thought out a name, so the wee thing may actually end up being called Nigella ( oh dear)
2. Pretty much unemployed, the US work that constituted 90% of our work has dried up, i have done a week of temping and thats about it recently we are still getting the odd job through, but I have a horrible feeling i am going to need to retrain again
3. Alex turned 2 Last month, we have been doing loads of Father and son stuff over the past year, most mornings we go to the park or the petting zoo, or the library, we built a sand pit about a month ago, I did the hard Yakka and Alex supervised although he did insist on trying to fill the wheelbarrow using only his toy spade, and he tried to screw in every single screw, and when he realised that two year olds aren't quite that strong he resorted to trying to hammer the screws in with the base of the screw driver.
4. I am still a dismal failure at fixing up the house, pretty much nothings been done, i filled a hole to stop the mice getting in, but thats about it

Now i remember why i don't blog, it depresses the hell out of me

see you next year, not that anyone would read this, because well, it's one of those blogs you see and think WHY?

Why is this person blogging they obviously have very little to say and it's as boring as hades

A Blessay of note

I have read a number of blogs, but very few if any have I returned to for a second look, I have found that most can be divided into 3 or 4 categories

• Spotty Blogs - These are characterised by frequent semi intelligible rants against Microsoft/Telecom/Schools etc (all of which their Mummy and Daddy pay for), with only the most tenuous argument to back up the basis of their rants, the image you get of the writers of these blogs is a spotty adolescent who still obsesses about Pokemon and that the perfect woman will her drop panties when she hears he is a grand pokemon master /level 20 dungeon master or whatever, basically they are the type of person who only gets a sense of self worth by making others feel miserable
• Technical Blogs - I like these, there are some people/geeks etc out there, who whenever they do something they will write a step by step guide to it, whether it be installing a new operating system, replacing ram or even something not technology based like a scrapbooking project or making a cloth nappy, these are written with an altruistic side to them, which is really helpful, but for me at least once i have solved the problem that caused me to visit the blog I very rarely go back (unless a similar problem arises)
• Waffling, Meandering blogs that go nowhere - the type of blog that stops and starts with no idea of what the next post may be and no coherence between any of the posts (probably what this post is going to be) , they are fine but it is hard to know if you will like them as you can't get a feel for the author of the blogs
• Blessays - Yes i know the term doesn't exist but I have pinched it from Stephen Frys blog as these are very long winded blogs but they have the self examination and self depreciation and of course the humour to stop them appearing as rants/ or odes to pomposity

I would dearly love to have the ability to write like Stephen Fry (I'd also love to be able to purchase all the gadgets he writes about to), but I have never been able to extract what i want to say out of my head, the words just seem clumsy when written down
